Nov 11

I spoke too soon.

Jive Ass D-Dude, indeed.

Yesterday, I expressed a sort of admiration toward the Facebook Royals fans for their mostly non-crazy reactions to the DeJesus trade.

Apparently they were only holding back because the trade hadn’t been officially posted on the Facebook page yet.

…and here they come. I still stand by the careful, levelheaded (?) things I said in last night’s post. I’m just supplementing it with some crazy from the FB page, and as usual, all [sic]s are implied. My thoughts are in italics.

D.M. (not Dayton Moore) wrote: This is getting redickulouse I wana be a royals fan so bad but who am I cheering for we give away all of our pkayers do we evan wana win in kc
I never want to spell ‘ridiculous’ correctly again in my life. This is way better. Also, who is evan? Does HE ‘wana win in kc’?

D.C. wrote: I love being a professional farm team. No wonder KC has no fans.
That is, in fact, how things still work. It is also still 1971 and this trade was actually with the Yankees for a 27-year-old version of DDJ with five years of club control left.

C.B. wrote: Great player, you are joking right? Never hit over 13 homeruns, never hit in over 75 RBI’s, never stole more than 11 bases, just average in the outfield, doesn’t have a strong arm. Where is this greatness you speak of? We cleared 5.5 mil for a guy that doesn’t do much except play the game the way its supposed to be played. He wasn’t a great player and he’s passed his prime.
WHOA, buddy. Too far in the opposite direction. DeJesus is good at baseball. We can’t suddenly say “he sucked!” to try to justify the trade. There are better ways to do that….

W.S. wrote: might as trade butler and rest of the good players then we callmr glass charlie’o findley
Y-yes?

J.P. wrote: Dejesus huh… Let me guess who’s next. Grienke, Soria, Gordon? Let’s jus give up our whole Fn team n bring up our A ball guys. Can’t get any worse. Way to screw up again Royals managment. Keep it up if wanna see a lot more empty seats at our beautiful stadium.
I don’ t think that’s quite how it works either. This guy’s gonna be SHOCKED in 2012 and ’13 when those ‘A ball guys’ actually do come up and are, you know, good.

T.B. wrote: What goes through their mind when they trade our best players????? Really quick being dumb and try to build a winning team with your best players not get rid of the better player for “up and coming” players. There needs to be a time when we try to be the best now and quick thinking of the future
More question marks makes it a better question!

B.W. wrote: Butler is the worst situational hitter I’ve ever seen. Might as well trade him before the rest of the league finds out.
Sure?

J.C. wrote: This sucks losing another good player due to lowsy managment Dayton Moore is a joke he needs to go back to Atlanta. I thought he would be good for this team ha don’t think so. Made bad deals all season long. Got rid of Guillen and he gets a World Series ring with the Giants happy for him bad for us. When is this management going to learn that you need to some strong offense to compete.
He’s right! WE would have won that World Series if only we had held on to that awesome Jose Guillen guy! Damn!

Anyway. That’s mean of me, but there’s only so much knee-jerkitude I can take. It’s people like this that made me quit listening to sports talk radio. This trade was not the greatest thing in the world, but it was not ‘Jermaine Dye for Neifi Perez’ bad. This team is in a completely different place. Glass did not order Moore to trade DeJesus because he was too expensive this year, although it’s already been suggested to me that that’s what happened.

If you’ve heard better (?) reactions on Facebook or elsewhere, bring it on in the comments section.

[…] NOVEMBER Big month here. Keith Law helped me figure out why nobody goes to Arizona Fall League games. I was impressed that there wasn’t much dumb outcry on Facebook about the David DeJesus trade. But then there was. […]
