People on Twitter have been making fun of Royals players who say “Y’know” for as long as people have been talking about the Royals on Twitter. This season, I’ll be keeping track of the player interviews on the Royals postgame show on FSKC so we can see quantifiably who the King of Y’Know really is.
Sorry for the lack of a Meter on Sunday! I was in Omaha for work all day, and trying to DVR that postgame show would have proven fruitless, since the game was so long! Here’s tonight’s – after another breathtaking win, two prolific Y’Knowers squared off in the clubhouse. Starting pitcher Luke Hochevar took the slight edge.
I’ll be at the game tomorrow, so probably no Meter. But there will be photos!
Game | Interviewee | Y’Knows | Time | YPM |
5 | Billy Butler | 16 | 1:30 | 10.6 |
5 | Luke Hochevar | 18 | 1:30 | 12 |

My money would have been on Butler. His ‘Y’knows’ just seem more tawdry to me. Like someone handed him “Postgame Interviews for Dummies” and he’s following it to the letter, rattling off the ‘Y’knows’ in those moments where he’s mentally flipping the page.
You know who didn’t mutter a single ‘Y’know?’ Jeffress. That dude was animated, speaking completely off the cuff, letting his excitement write the script. Wish more ball players would let go in such a way.

Ha! Sometimes Butler rattles off back-to-back Y’Knows. He and Hoch also both used a lethal “I mean/Y’Know” combo a few times.
Jeffress’ interview was SO endearing. I know he was extra hyped up in the moment, but it was easily the most fun I’ve had viewing a player interview in a very long time. More of that, please!

Wasn’t aware of the rampant ‘Y’knows’ coming from Royals players, but will now be listening attentively anytime one of them are interviewed now…….because of this blog. :)
