Given that I am a somewhat normal* college girl, I send and receive many, many text messages every day. Many of them, as you could probably guess, are about the Royals or baseball in general. And sometimes, my phone’s auto-complete feature comes up with some pretty hysterical stuff instead of the things I actually want to type.
*Except the baseball obsessiveness. I don’t think that’s normal.
Like this one time, I was texting a friend about some MLB player – I don’t remember which one – who had just signed a long-term deal with his team. What I intended to describe was a “3-year contract with a club option for a 4th.” Only my phone’s word suggester likes words better than ordinal numbers, so the message that actually got sent before I realized the error involved “a club option for a hug.”
Some of my favorite suggested words for Royals players:
Davies = Father
Ponson = pompom
Aviles = bugles
Anyway, I’m easily amused. Now for a bit of news, if you’ll indulge me for a moment more: Starting this Thursday, I will be contributing some Royals content at least once a week to Inside The Majors, a site to which I’ve linked quite a bit here which is run by former MLB AGM Bart Given. Given announced a few days ago that he will be expanding the site to include a section for each team, so I’ll be the KC person.
