“The Royals are officially unstoppable.” -David Pinto
After a soul-crushing 9th inning loss in Omaha this afternoon, it was great to just destroy something, even if that “something” was just Kansas City destroying Carlos Silva.
This is the Royals’ 17th win of 2009. The team got to that very fast compared to the last few years – via commenter Cairo at Royals Review:
2009 – 28 games to win 17
2008 – 38 games
2007 – 45 games
2006 – 64 games
Dear 2006,
I still hate you.
Love,
Minda
Cairo then went on to point out this set of “fun/ugly” stats.
2009 Royals: 139 runs scored, 109 runs allowed, +30 DIFF (May 6th)
2006 Royals: 139 runs scored, 222 runs allowed, -83 DIFF (1st inning, May 18th)
Yep, the team has come a long way since the Crap Years. Scoring more runs than they allow. Winning more games than they lose. Being mentioned on Baseball Tonight and the vastly superior MLB Tonight. Do I believe it’s fully for real? I don’t think so, at least not yet. This Royals team still has flaws, and probably won’t look “unstoppable,” as Pinto said, forever.
But…it’s May 6, almost May 7 (Central time zone, yo!). The Royals are in first place. I’m just going to enjoy it while I’ve got it, because it’s new and crazy and scary and awesome and confusing and consuming. Sort of like falling in love, I think, but higher in the standings.
